The Greater Albemarle Area Chapter of the American Red Cross headquartered in Elizabeth City, NC has been serving this community for over 90 years. We currently serve the counties of Pasquotank, Bertie, Camden, Chowan, Currituck, Dare, Gates, Hertford, and Perquimans.. The Greater Albemarle Area Chapter is known for its excellent disaster program, especially in response to home fires. Please fill out the volunteer application that best suits you. You will be asked to complete an online background check at no expense to you. To become a volunteer fill out an application at the website. If you are looking to volunteer for the American Red Cross on a regular basis, please complete and submit the Adult Volunteer Application. If you are between the ages of 15-25 years old and would like to become an American Red Cross Youth Volunteer, please complete and submit the Youth Volunteer Application. If you are already an American Red Cross disaster volunteer and have completed an orientation and background check, enroll in Red Cross Disaster Training in your area. Returning users may login to Volunteer Connection to access their volunteer profile, manage opportunities, see & share local volunteer experiences and more.

Once you have completed the form (and saved it to where you can retrieve it), you can do one of the following:

Please note – if you email documents, either sign and scan or electronically sign and email with a statement that you have read, understand and accept all provisions as outlined in each document.
Step 2: Please review our Orientation to the American Red Cross .
This course is designed to share our mission, our expectations of all our staff and volunteers, and provides you with the foundation for your volunteer experience. You will be required to discuss the Orientation prior to beginning your volunteer position, so please do not skip this step.
Step 3: The American Red Cross conducts background checks on all new volunteer and paid staff through MyBackgroundCheck.com. These background checks include a national criminal database search, sexual predator search, social security verification and a motor vehicle check (for those who may drive a Red Cross vehicle).
Individuals who do not pass the background check will be notified directly by MyBackgroundCheck.Com within 14 days with instructions on how to correct any errors or appeal the results of the background check. Everyone will be required to provide the following:
1) Full name
3) E-mail address
4) Telephone number
5) Social security number or other government ID
6) Drivers license number (if you have one)
Once you have gathered the required information, begin the background check at MyBackgroundCheck.com by clicking on “Become a Volunteer” and follow the directions. When asked for your unit of affiliation, please choose – American Red Cross Greater Albemarle Area Chapter. The chapter code is 33334
You’re almost done
Simply send an email to Volunteer Services confirming you have completed all the required steps, attach any documents you will be emailing or let us know how you are delivering the documents (mail, fax).
You must also acknowledge that you have read, understand and accept the chapter code of conduct, intellectual property agreement and volunteer handbook. You can send this email to Volunteer Services. We will accept your electronic signature.
Thank completes the volunteer application process. You should hear from us within three business days as to the next steps. Welcome and thank you for your willingness to serve!
