The United States Coast Guard reports; “An untrained boater is five times more likely to die in a boating accident than a boater who has taken a boating safety course in the last 10 years.” The effectiveness of this course is shown by the insurance companies who offer a 10% – 15% discount to owners with a certificate of completion from this course.
The Coast Guard Auxiliary is the uniformed volunteer unit of the US Coast Guard, missioned to promote public boating safety. Trained with the same methods and procedures as their military partners, flotilla members spend thousands of hours on local waters conducting safety patrols, search and rescue, and training and support for Coast Guard Oregon Inlet and Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City. The Boating Skills and Seamanship course will introduce you to our members and our mission.
