You can help in several ways:

  • Offer your time as a refuge volunteer.  Contact our volunteer coordinator Tracey Rock at 473-1132, ext. 227 to find out all of the amazing opportunities to help.  In 2004, the CWRS Board of Directors and general membership voted to extend memberships to individuals who donated their time volunteering on national wildlife refuges in eastern North Carolina. Those who sign up and actively volunteer service receive a membership for that calendar year.  Those who have donated 500+ hours of cumulative service are entitled to a lifetime membership. CWRS extends this offer to anyone who volunteers on Alligator River, Currituck, Mackay Island, Pea Island, or Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuges.
  • Join one of the Coastal Wildlife Society’s Friends of the Refuge Work Teams!  The work teams help clear trails and paths both on land and through our paddling areas.  Work teams also repair, paint and post signs around the refuges.  Landscaping help aids in planting, cutting and control native species at the visitor centers and throughout the refuges. And there are many more projects on which workers assist.
  • Donate money to assist with refuge projects, equipment and grants:If you’d like to help the Alligator River or Pea Island National Wildlife Refuges through the Coastal Wildlife Refuge Society, you may make a contribution on-line or you may write or call CWRS or the Refuge.
