It’s spring, and that heralds the start of Prom Season at high schools across the country.

Organizers of Dare County’s annual After Prom Party are kicking into high gear to get the word out to students, parents and those all-important sponsors to make the 2017 After Prom Party the largest and most successful ever.

Dare County’s After Prom Party is on April 22, with doors opening at 11 p.m. at the Outer Banks YMCA, which is the hub for the After Prom registration and events.

The party is open to all Manteo and First Flight students who can attend prom, which includes sophomores through seniors for Manteo High School, and freshmen through seniors at First Flight.

Now is the time volunteers are hitting the streets and asking merchants for any donations — large and small — to help induce more students to come to the After Prom and stay safe during the night.

Last year, some 350 students attended some portion of After Prom, and about 200 made it to the prizes and breakfast, which this year will be served at 4 a.m.
