2017 Quarterly Grants Awarded; Your Donations at Work

2017 Quarterly Grants Awarded; Your Donations at Work

From feeding the hungry to restoring history, this summer's quarterly grant recipients are now prepared to improve their impact on the community. When Community Foundation board members met earlier this month, they approved nine grants— including the Beach Food Pantry grant described above— that will help hundreds in our community.

Chicamacomico Historical Association

In an attempt to protect and preserve the legacy of the brave men and women who guarded our coast during WWI and WWII, the Community Foundation has awarded the Association with a $25,000 grant. The funds will be used to repair damaged outdoor siding and roofing on the 1911 station.

Mano Al Hermano

Mano Al Hermano, "My hand to my brother", is launching a new community outreach program that will provide immigrant and mixed-status families with legal courses on economics and immigration problems. The $3,172 grant from the Community Foundation will help Mano Al Hermano in reaching and aiding more immigrant members of our community.

Outer Banks Sporting Events

Thanks to a $5,000 grant from the Community Foundation, registration for annual races such as the Flying Pirate will become easier for potential racers. The new grant will allow OBSE to update their website and online presence in an effort to increase visibility and raise more money for local charities. OBSE donates 100% of net proceeds to the Dare Education Foundation and the Outer Banks Relief Foundation.

Outer Banks Chamber

The Community Foundation has awarded the Outer Banks Chamber with a $1,000 grant aimed at inspiring current and future leaders of the Outer Banks community. With this grant the Chamber will provide scholarships to nonprofit personnel who wish to attend leadership OBX later this fall.

Outer Banks SPCA

Homeless and abandoned animals will soon receive a ray of sunshine at the Outer Banks SPCA. With an approved $250 grant from the Community Foundation, the OBX SPCA will create food games, toys, and other supplies for animal enrichment services.

First Flight Society

Thanks to the Community Foundation, the First Flight Society will now be able to further preserve the legacy of the Wright Brothers. A $350 grant was awarded to the society, and will be used to update their online presence for those seeking more information about the historic first flight.

MANE & TAILL

In an attempt to further their community outreach, Main & Taill will now offer scholarships to those who lack the funds to participate in equine therapy. The $11,500 grant from the Community Foundation will allow many more children with disabilities to learn and grow from the power of the horse.

Special Olympics Dare County

Dare and Currituck County residents with disabilities will have the opportunity to train and participate in athletic competition at this year's Dare County Special Olympics. The Community Foundation awarded the organization with a $5,000 grant that will allow the participants to sport new uniforms, travel to state competitions, and train year-round.
