Currituck Extension’s Healthy Video Series Nationally Recognized
The Currituck County Cooperative Extension “Healthy” video series has received state and national accolades for social networking and communications! The team, led by Olivia Jones, Family and Consumer Sciences Agent and consisting of Ms. Jones, County Administrative Assistant, Sherry Lynn and County Extension Director, Cameron Lowe was recognized at the National Extension Association of Family & Consumer Sciences annual meeting in October. The project took second place among the southern region of the US. Ms. Jones was also recognized with a statewide communications award in August for the Healthy video series.
The “Healthy” video series launched in January of 2016. It quickly became evident that a strong social media presence was necessary. Using already developed staff-wide social media accounts which include YouTube, Pinterest, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and the county website, the team shared the Currituck Healthy video series bi-monthly to a variety of audiences.
Developing the “Healthy” video series and social media network has extended the reach of nutritional education programming in Currituck County and surrounding areas. Effectively, this project has doubled the number of educational opportunities offered by Family and Consumer Sciences staff in a format that is sustainable and can be accessed as often as needed by educators and consumers of the program. Further, this effort has reached an audience that is not traditional for family and consumer sciences programing. You can find the “Healthy” video series at go.ncsu.edu/CurrituckCESHealthy.
