Dominion Energy North Carolina Contribution Enhances Education Programs at The Elizabethan Gardens
The Elizabethan Gardens has received a $5,000 grant from Dominion Energy North Carolina through the Dominion Energy Charitable Foundation to enhance their educational programs by re-purposing a building for that goal. Dominion Energy has a philanthropic history with The Gardens. In the past, they have supported programs like their Family Fun Series as well as site enhancement projects. Today, The Gardens is once again thankful to Dominion Energy North Carolina for their generous support.
Over the past few years, The Gardens has expanded their programs and offerings. They have increased workshops and youth outreach programs. As a result they have experienced the limitations of their space. After reflection, they sought assistance to continue this expansion by turning a garden shed into a Discovery Cottage with educational components.
“On behalf of Dominion Energy North Carolina, I am proud to show our support for The Gardens and their continued efforts to enhance and support their Children’s Educational Programs,” said Pam Pekrun, External Affairs Manager of Dominion Energy North Carolina. “This program will give children hands-on experience discovering the world of the plant kingdom and learning about sustainability for our planet,” said Pekrun.
The Dominion Foundation supports various cultural activities throughout their service locations through their focus on community vitality. This gift fulfills their mission to foster “an appreciation of diversity, revitalizing neighborhoods, and ensuring a vibrant community life through support of cultural endeavors.”
“We are dedicated to preserving the beauty and tranquility of The Elizabethan Gardens as a tribute to the first English colonists in the New World,” said Carl Curnutte, Executive Director of The Gardens. “Thanks to Dominion Energy, we can continue to be good stewards of The Gardens and this mission by sharing The Gardens with younger visitors in our educational programs.”
