Whether you have a group of 5 or 50, or you’d like to come by yourself to lend a hand, Food Bank of the Albemarle always appreciates a helping hand. We currently are in need of groups to help us in the first week of each month packing boxes for our Commodity Supplemental Food Program. We are assembling 1,651 boxes each month to distribute across 8 of the 15 counties we serve. These boxes of nutritious food are delivered each month to senior adults age 60 and older, and helps to supplement their monthly food resources.
Volunteers are extremely important and play a significant role in our work. Volunteers are the core of our being and the overall success of Food Bank of the Albemarle’s work to end hunger in our 15 county service territory. During fiscal year 2016-17, 1,056 volunteers gave more than 11,411 hours of service to the food bank which enabled us to successfully distribute 6.4 million lbs. of food, or the equivalent of 5.3 million meals.
In the mission to fight hunger, we know that the greatest success comes from those willing to spare a few hours and help us achieve our mission to end hunger in northeast North Carolina. Whether you prefer to help sort food products and produce within our 20,000 square foot warehouse, assist with food distribution or help with one of our special events, we encourage you to become involved and welcome you to join the fight against hunger.
Your time and service is valuable, therefore we require that all volunteer groups schedule their work in advance.
All volunteers are required to attend a volunteer orientation at which time a staff member will provide you with a brief training on food bank safety practices and provide an overview of the rules and regulations of working in our warehouse. After orientation, we ask that you complete a volunteer application. Click here to apply.
Please contact us to schedule a volunteer orientation, which is held on these days and times:
Mondays: 3:30 p.m to 4:00 p.m.
Wednesdays: 9:00 a.m. – 9:30 a.m.
